blo & lumeo photography make for special memories

I’m super excited to let everyone know that the photo shoot with Alex and her mom Beatrice went well. Peggy reports from her blog… Check it out!

Special thanks again to Blo @ the Four Seasons in Vancouver, BC and Peggy for making this happen.

On a Passion note, I cant tell you how exciting it is to see businesses in the community support our endeavours and the girls we service. Because of businesses like Blo and Peggy at Lumeo we are able to hold contests and encourage young women to take healthy risks and challenge themselves into their dreams; while being supported and rewarded. This makes all the work worth it!

Along with businesses that help we have an amazing base of volunteers out there that are helping from behind the scenes… As one of our Passion girls puts it… we <3 you!!!

My HERO Contest WINNER: Alex and Beatrice

We are pleased to announce that Alex Lukac, our Passion Leader extraordinaire, has won the My Hero Contest…

Alex has been a participant and volunteer for the Passion Foundation for over two years. She has demonstrated her ability to be true to herself, her community, and her family.

Here is Alex’s entry:

My Hero

Submitted to: Passion Foundation
Submitted by: Alexandra Lukac

My mother, Beatrice Lukac, is my hero. My mother is an immigrant single mother of three children and has been my family’s primary care giver for the last thirteen years. Living through the family’s breakup and the financial challenges that followed for many years has been a constant stress and emotionally challenging. I feel very fortunate to have a mother who always stayed positive and looked for opportunities to better our family situation.

Due to her hard work, persistence, and determination, she moved our family from Toronto to Vancouver and successfully completed a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Now working as a mental health therapist at Vancouver Coastal Health, she now helps others. In September 2008, she overcame medical difficulties. Her dream of buying a place for us became true in September 2009 when she bought an apartment downtown. She has put so much time into helping me through my pain, my family, and her clients and now she has put the time into enhancing her life. Just a couple months ago she started taking singing lessons, which she has been dreaming about since childhood.

She has proved to everyone that it is never too late to pursue your dreams and overcome challenges. She is accepting of herself and her accomplishments and accepting of other people. With my mother as my role model, I learned to become independent, strong, and involved with helping others as well. As my inspiration and hero, my mother has revealed to me the power of giving, love, positive attitude, and belief in oneself. My mother is a phenomenal woman, a phenomenal mother, and my phenomenal hero.

Thanks to Blo Hair Bar and Peggy from Lumeo Photography Alex and her mom Beatrice will be getting their hair did for a professional photoshoot on July 17, 2010.

Stay tuned for photos!
